    Partindo das relações entre literatura e espaço, a proposta deste artigo é analisar a representação da natureza no romance Mayombe, de Pepetela, escrito na década de setenta do século XX, quando Angola era ainda colônia de Portugal. Destaca-se na obra a relação entre a floresta como espaço insular, de trincheira e escudo, em contraposição ao espaço colonial, representado na narrativa pela presença dos tugas, soldados portugueses a serviço de Salazar em Angola.

    Starting from the relations between literature and space, the purpose of this article is to analyze the representation of nature in the novel Mayombe, by Pepetela, written in the seventies of the twentieth century, when Angola was still a Portuguese colony. The work highlights the relationship between the forest as an insular space, trench and shield, as opposed to the colonial space, represented in the narrative by the presence of the “tugas”, Portuguese soldiers working for Salazar in Angola.
