La psicología en Paraguay y el problema de la determinación de los pioneros

    La psicología paraguaya puede dividirse en dos periodos diferenciados y consecutivos: el preuniversitario y el universitario y profesional. Durante el primero, la psicología estuvo representada en la obra de diversos autores que manifestaron intereses en la discusión e investigación de cuestiones clasificables como “psicológicas”. A éstos se les puede considerar pioneros de la psicología en Paraguay. Los conceptos de pioneros o precursores, sin embargo, no han sido definidos con suficiente precisión. Por este motivo, la adscripción de un autor cualquiera a una de estas categorías plantea determinadas dificultades conceptuales para el historiador. El propósito de este artículo es analizar las connotaciones que el uso del término pioneros conlleva para la ciencia de la psicología en general, pero con una referencia más específica a la psicología paraguaya.

    Luego de contextualizar el problema general, se propone una definición más precisa de lo que podría considerarse un pionero de la psicología.

    Posteriormente se presenta sintéticamente a los pioneros de la psicología paraguaya y se analizan los principales problemas que resultan inherentes a considerarlos como tales.

    Se concluye que, con las precisiones necesarias, los autores estudiados actuaron como pioneros de la psicología paraguaya.

    Paraguayan psychology can be divided into two differentiated and consecutive periods: the pre university period and the university and professional period.

    During the first period, psychology was represented by the works of different authors that showed particular interest in discussing and researching matters that can be classified as «psychological ». In this paper we consider those authors as the pioneers of psychology in Paraguay. However, both concepts of pioneer or precursor have not been defined with entire precision. For this reason, to include an author in any of these categories creates some conceptual problems for the historian. The purpose of this article is to analyze the connotation of the term pioneer for the science of psychology in general, but specially focusing on the meaning it has for Paraguayan psychology.

    After setting the problem in context, we will try to reach a precise definition about who should be considered a pioneer of psychology. Next the pioneers of Paraguayan psychology will be presented in a synthetic way, and some problems, which are inherent to the fact of treating those as the first psychologists, will be anlyzed. Finally, with the corresponding precisions, we conclude that the mentioned authors really were the genuine pioneers of psychology in Paraguay.
