    En 1999, la revista The New Yorker publicó un número dedicado a jóvenes promesas literarias, entre las que se encontraban autores como Michael Chabon, David Foster Wallace, Junot Díaz y Jonathan Franzen. Este reconocimiento situó a Díaz en un lugar destacado de las letras estadounidenses y latinoamericanas, lo cual nos lleva a inferir que la producción de traducciones cuidadas constituyó un objetivo primordial para la promoción de sus textos en el ámbito internacional a partir de ese momento. En el presente capítulo abordamos los retos que presenta la traducción de la novela The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao (2007) al español en tanto que texto híbrido en a nivel lingüístico, identitario y literario. Nuestro análisis tiene en cuenta la traducción del cambio de código como reto para el traductor. En concreto, el posicionamiento político del autor y la voluntad heteroglóssica del texto fuente constituyen aspectos a tener en cuenta en el análisis que ofrecemos en este capítulo.

    In 1999, The New Yorker published an issue dedicated to young literary promises, amongst which one could find the likes of Michael Chabon, David Foster Wallace, Junot Díaz, and Jonathan Franzen. This inclusion offered Díaz a prominent position in North-American and Latin-American writing, which brings us to infer that, from that moment, carefully produced translations of his works became a main objective to promote his texts in the international arena. The present chapter discusses the challenges posed by the translation of the novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao (2007) into Spanish, taking into account that this is a hybrid text in terms of language, identity and genre. Our analysis takes into account the change of code as a relevant issue for the translator. More specifically, the political stance taken by the author and the heteroglossia displayed by the text constitute vital aspects in the analysis we offer here.
