Este artículo ofrece un conjunto de reflexiones de suautor sobre la evolución del sistema financiero con una óptica europea y española. Se destaca la necesidad de mantener una política monetaria rigurosa de estabilidad, la utilidad de contar con un sistema bancario eficiente, en el que, por otra parte, los avances en la tecnología de la información producirán transformaciones muy importantes, la conveniencia de que el sistema bancario evite la exclusión financiera y la tendencia a difuminarse de las diferencias entre los distantes componentes institucionales del Sistema Financiero.

This article offers a set of reflections by its author on the future development of the financial system from a European and Spanish viewpoint. We underline the need to maintain a tight monetary stability policy, the value of having an efficient banking system in which, futhermore, advances in information technology will bring about very important changes, the advisability thatthe banking system should prevent financial exclusion, and the tendency of the differences between distant institutional components of the Financial System to fade away.
