Atendiendo al valor de la amistad podemos conocer la verdadera personalidad de Marcel Proust, pero también determinar el alcance de su obra, la profundidad de su pensamiento o su compromiso desde niño por hacerse escritor. Porque Proust, lejos de pensar que las amistades llevan consigo aspectos positivos, él justificaba su soledad al más puro estilo schopenhaueriano: convertirse en genio es tarea de un sujeto que vive aislado y para sí mismo.

In valuing friendship we may acquaint not only Marcel Proust’s real personality but also the significance of his work, the depth of his thought or the commitment to write since he was a child. Far from thinking positive on friendship, Proust justified his loneliness in a sheer Schopenhauerian style: to become a genius is a job for somebody living isolated and only for the sake of himself and his own things.
