Spongites yendoi (foslie) y. Chamberlain (Corallinales, Rhodophyta) en la costa Atlántica de México y Caribe mexicano

    RESUMEN En el presente trabajo se cita la presencia de Spongites yendoi (Foslie) Y. Chamberlain (Corallinaceae, Rhodophyta) en la costa Atlántica de México y Caribe mexicano. Éste es el primer registro de S. yendoi en esta área geográfica. La determinación de los especímenes se basó en la revisión morfológica de muestras obtenidas en varios arrecifes de Veracruz, Yucatán y Quintana Roo. Se describen las estructuras vegetativas y reproductoras así como el hábitat y la distribución de esta especie.

    ABSTRACT In this work we report the occurrence of Spongites yendoi (Foslie) Y. Chamberlain (Corallinaceae, Rhodophyta) from the Atlantic coast of Mexico and Mexican Caribbean. This is the first record of S. yendoi in this geographic area. The identification was based on a morphological revision of samples collected from several reefs in Veracruz, Yucatan and Quintana Roo. The vegetative and reproductive structures as well habitat and distribution of this species are described.
