    El artículo analiza las relaciones de grupos sociales desde los escritos de las élites colombianas en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Como fuentes se utilizaron textos del siglo XIX y publicaciones sobre historia social y sociología. Las élites, a través de escribir y de publicar, desarrollaron la capacidad de construir imágenes con cargas valorativas y la posibilidad de establecer barreras entre grupos relativamente homogéneos. La base para las diferencias fue la condición humana, eran humanos los miembros de las élites, la mayoría de la población era catalogada como casi humana y algunos se consideraban en un estado animal. La condición humana fue la base para la construcción de los otros.

    The article analyzes the relations of social groups from the writings of the Colombian elites in the second half of the XIX century. As sources were used XIX century texts, publications on social history and sociology. The elites, through writing and publishing, developed the ability to build images with valuation charges and the possibility of establishing barriers between relatively homogeneous groups. The basis for the differences was the human condition, humans were members of the elite, most of the population was classified as almost human and some were considered in a animal state. The human condition was the basis for the construction of others.
