    Los estudios históricos sobre libros y bibliotecas en Venezuela han sido abordados con gran interés por parte de investigadores desde inicios del siglo XX, sin embargo, los mismos no podrían considerarse extensos ni sistemáticos, al menos desde una perspectiva historiográfica. En tal sentido, resulta necesario emprender investigaciones con el propósito de generar nuevos aportes en este campo, razón por la cual el presente artículo busca exponer desde una mirada histórico-cultural la importancia de las bibliotecas entendidas como lugares de la palabra; es decir, espacios culturales en donde se desarrolla la relación autor- libro- lector, tomando como ejemplo los servicios bibliotecarios de la niversidad de Los Andes (Mérida-Venezuela), los cuales, desde sus inicios hasta la actualidad, representa uno de los repositorios bibliohemerográficos más importantes del país.

    Historical studies of books and libraries in Venezuela have been approached with great interest by researchers since the early twentieth century, however, the same could not be considered extensive or systematic, at least from a historiographical perspective. In this regard, it is necessary to undertake research for the purpose of generating new contributions in this field, which is why this article explains from a historical-cultural perspective the importance of libraries understood as places of the word; that is to say, cultural spaces wherethe author-book-reader relationship develops, as exemplified by the library services of the University of Los Andes (Mérida-Venezuela), which, from its beginnings to the present, represent one of the most important repositories bibliohemerográficos from the country.
