  • Resumen
    • Clinch discusses a technique for factoring quadratics of the form ax2+bx+c with regard to why a and c must be multiplied and how unconnected doing so was from the prior strategy when a=1. Factoring is a fundamental concept in first-year algebra and the strategy called factoring for roots enables them to extend the knowledge that they used when the leading coefficient was 1. Quadratics with a leading coefficient of 1 challenge some students' factoring abilities, but expressions with a leading coefficient not equal to one tend to frustate even the most proficient students.
