  • The article discusses the concept posited by cancer biologist John Pawelek that the ability of cancer to metastasize derives from tumor cells fusing with white blood cells. The author examines how the relatively small amount that is known about metastasis hinders further research and examines theories underlying this phenomenon. The advent of technologies such as radiation therapy and chemotherapy may facilitate the research of Pawelek's theory. INSET: JOHN PAWELEK.
