The creation of the Museo Antropológico in 1875, as an institution for teaching and dissemination of the anatomical and anthropological knowledges, constituted one of the pillars that, together with the Museo Arqueológico Nacional (created in 1867) and the Real Museo de Ciencias Naturales (founded in 1815), facilitated the conformation of a museum network for the dissemination of modern Anthropological Sciences in the State capital. This network of specialized centers in the different dimensions of the study of Man, will contribute to the formalization and later excision of the anthropological disciplines throughout the 20th century. In this direction, the history of the museum shows the route from an initial naturalistic orientation, and its subsequent modernization, through the twentieth century, until the new museological formulations, centered on interdisciplinarity and the importance of the social diffusion of knowledge, adopted by the institution with the new century.
