    El Colegio "San Rafael" fue uno de los centros de enseñanza más destacados de finales del s. XIX en la ciudad de Salamanca. Se hace un estudio detenido del mismo: su fundación, niveles de estudio que impartía, orientación ideológica que seguía, su vida interna, número de alumnos matriculados, profesorado... Lo que realmente caracteriza e individualiza a esta institución de otras son sus métodos, sistemas y actividades de enseñanza, que fueron totalmente innovadoras y rompieron con la rutina pedagógica que caracterizaba al sistema escolar salmantino en las últimas décadas del s. XIX. El Colegio "San Rafael" merece ser estudiado y conocido precisamente por el papel promotor y pionero que desempeña en la historia escolar salmantina, en la historia de los métodos de enseñanza y de los adelantos e innovaciones pedagógicas.
