Resumen
The number of people with diabetes in the United States is estimated to surpass 330 million by 2030. Previous research has examined support provided by family and friends, finding it to be particularly important in combating stressful experiences, improving a person's awareness of his/her illness, and leading to better well-being. In the case of people with diabetes, supportive communication from family in particular has been related to lower diabetes distress. The present study examines the communication of support from the point of view of the family member who provides support to a person with diabetes, qualitatively examining the types of support family members of persons with diabetes provide as well as the difficulties they face in communicating that support.
