Resumen de Liberalización y ámbito geográfico de actuación: un análisis para las cajas de ahorros

  Este trabajo presenta un análisis descriptivo del proceso de expansión seguido por las cajas de ahorros españolas, una vez eliminadas completamente las restricciones que les impedían abrir oficinas fuera de un ámbito geográfico limitado. En él se pone de manifiesto la existencia de dos estrategias de crecimiento claramente diferenciadas. Por una parte, la adoptada por aquellas entidades que tratan de consolidar su posición en los mercados en los que venían actuando hasta entonces.Por otra, la que siguen aquellas cajas que aprovechanla liberalización para extender su ámbito de actuación, bien a todo el territorio nacional, bien a un área geográfica más reducida.

  This study offers a descriptive analysis of the expansion process that has taken place in the Spanish savings banks once the restrictions that prevented them from opening branches outside a limited geographical area were completely removed. We explain the existence of two clearly differentiated growth strategies: on the one hand, the strategy adoptedby those banks trying to consolidate their position in the markets where they had been operating hitherto, and on the other, that implemented by those savings banks taking advantage of liberalization in order to extend their sphere of action either to the whole of the country or else to a some smaller geographic area.
