Teatro testimonial contemporáneo en Chile: dilemas éticos y estéticos

    Usando ejemplos del teatro contemporáneo en Chile – Mi mundo patria, de Andrea Giadach, y Las niñas araña, de Luis Barrales (ambas estrenadas en 2008) – este artículo busca interrogar tales definiciones tradicionales del teatro testimonial en términos de sus alcances éticos y estéticos. Algunas preguntas necesarias son: ¿hay estructuras dramáticas comunes en las obras de carácter testimonial surgidas en la última década?, ¿es posible hablar de un teatro testimonial de ficción? y, si es así, ¿pone éste en duda el valor ético y político de la tradición testimonial latinoamericana?

    Using examples of testimonial theatre in Chile – Mi Mundo Patria by Andrea Giadach and Las Niñas Araña by Luis Barrales (both premiered in 2008) – this article seeks to interrogate traditional definitions of testimonial theater in terms of their ethical and aesthetic implications. Key questions include: Are there common dramatic structures in testimonial plays produced in the last decade? Is it possible to speak of a fictional testimonial theatre? If so, are the ethical and political values of the Latin American testimonial tradition jeopardized?
