In this article we propose to make a historic revision of the origins of contemporary Chilean documentary and a critical reflection of recent productions, in which an autobiographical blueprint clearly predominates. These documentaries claim the importance of an intimate voice that builds and resignifies public space and the dominant historical narrative of the recent past. Thereby, the documentary stops being a transparent or bjective record of reality and turns into a performative act where truth arises in the moment of filming, showing the process of documenting and the encounter with the subjects (Bruzzi). In the documentary genre we are invited to access the document or the registry through representation or interpretation, thus the archive is changeable and not a fixed reference
