  • Dallison talks about Chelsea Manning's jail term and treatment. It's been a long time coming, but Barack Obama's decision to commute Chelsea Manning's unduly severe prison sentence in his final days as US president was hugely welcome. When Manning, as a US Army intelligence analyst in Kuwait, copied thousands of files onto a CD and smuggled them out of her military base, she set in train a series of events that helped define a new era in internet activism. Within weeks, documents she said showed "the true nature of 21st-century asymmetric warfare" were put online by WikiLeaks.
