  En este artículo, se aborda el proceso de construcción de la Villa Capataces CAP. Este barrio se caracterizó, en sus primeras décadas de vida, por poseer una identidad particular vinculada a la Siderúrgica de Huachipato, ya que ésta industria mantuvo una estrecha relación con sus habitantes, quienes, en su mayoría, eran trabajadores. Diversos mecanismos impulsados por la siderúrgica y su accionar paternalista influyeron en la configuración y reafirmación de esta identidad, facilitando el reconocimiento del otro-habitante como similar y la diferenciación respecto de quienes no formaban parte de esta “familia huachipatina”.

  In this article, the process of construction of the Villa Capataces CAP is addressed. This neighborhood was characterized, in its first decades of life, by having a particular identity linked to the Huachipato Steel Company, since this industry maintained a close relation with its inhabitants, who, for the most part, were workers. Various mechanisms promoted by the steel company and its paternalistic actions influenced the configuration and reaffirmation of this identity, facilitating the recognition of the other-inhabitant as a similar and the differentiation with respect to those who were not part of this "huachipatina family".
