En los últimos años, la enseñanza de las ciencias se ha encaminado hacia un enfoque integrado de los saberes y sus aplicaciones en la vida cotidiana que se ha denominado STE(A)M (del inglés Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). El objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar la evolución histórica de la enseñanza de las ciencias en España, a través de los manuales escolares del fondo bibliográfico del Centro de Documentación Infantil y Juvenil, Museo Pedagógico, de la Biblioteca de la Facultad de Formación de Profesorado y Educación de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid que se datan hasta de finales del s. XIX. Los resultados de nuestro estudio demuestran que, en la educación científica en España, existe una tendencia histórica hacia la integración de las ciencias con la vida real hasta 1935, aunque sin alcanzar enfoques STE(A)M.

The teaching of science recently has been focused towards an integrated approach to knowledge and its applications in everyday life that has been called STE(A)M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). The aim of this work was to analyze the historical evolution of science education in Spain, through the textbooks of the of the bibliographic collection of the Children and Youth Documentation Center, Pedagogical Museum, of the Library of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of the Autonomous University of Madrid that date from 1870 to 1970. The results of our study show that, in scientific education in Spain, there is a historical tendency towards the integration of sciences with real life until 1935, although without reaching STE(A)M approaches
