  • Resumen
    • This communication is based on a multi-sited ethnographic research in two vocational training centres between Lyon and Barcelona. Its main objective was to investigate the relevance of linguistic practices in the training of auto automobile mechanics in two different contexts. This is a project based on the exchange of video tutorials between learners of mechanics of these two cities. Through these audio-visual materials, these young people explained to one another the specific characteristics of their training. The students discovered differences and similarities, both professionally and linguistically. For example, despite speaking different languages, they were able to understand each other through the videos. However, they also reflected on the social categories that they shared. Specifically, I will analyse why for students in France Barcelona guys look "all Latinos" and for the students from Barcelona French students "all Arabs." We'll see how participants are challenged not only by the spoken languages or the organization of their training centres in both contexts, but also the origin, trajectories and current social context of students.
