A hint of matter and antimatter behaving differently to each other has been spotted in particles called baryons for the first time. If the find bears out it could help explain the existence of all matter in the universe. Physicists believe the big bang made equal amounts of matter and antimatter. But these contrasting particles annihilate each other whenever they meet, so they should all have been wiped out long ago. The fact there's enough matter today for people to exist and wonder why means that some mechanism must have favored matter over antimatter.
