Resumen de La batalla ¿europea? en el mercado de los buques de crucero. Tirando del hilo llegamos a la construcción naval militar.

José-Esteban Pérez García

  • The question mark open by the future of the French big shipyard in Saint Nazaire, STX France has been converted in a political and industrial battle between the French and the Italian governments. Some kind of supremacy in the field of the world cruise shipbuilding market is the key of the game, especially for the Italian side.

At the same time the opening of the Italian contender, Fincantieri, towards the Chinese shipbuilding market in cruise sector, with a strategic agreement on technology transfer to help Chinese in entering in this market by building cruise ships for The Carnival Group, presumably to be deployed within the Asia-Pacific tourist market has introduced some obstacles for Italian and French to reach an agreement.

However, French proposals regarding some kind on collaboration with the Italians in the naval shipbuilding sector have to be considered as a wakeup call for the other important countries in this sector, like Spain, especially regarding the future in the export market when there is a request within the NATO to increase the investments in defense.
