    José Caballero fue un pintor onubense clave en las vanguardias del siglo XX. El artículo recorre brevemente su biografía personal y artística desde su traslado a Madrid, en un primer momento con el objetivo de cursar sus estudios en ingeniería, hasta su consolidación plena como artista en la cual consiguió crear un lenguaje pictórico propio. Para ello nos servimos, de un lado, de distintas fuentes bibliográficas tales como libros monográficos y catálogos de exposiciones, desde diferentes puntos de vista, así como de distintas fuentes que servirán para entender el contexto político, social y artístico de la España de aquellos años. De otro lado, nos serviremos del análisis de algunas de sus obras a fin de comprender la trayectoria del artista, así como sus distintas etapas y momentos más importantes.

    José Caballero was a painter from Huelva in the avant-garde of the 20th century. This article briefly traces his personal biography and his artistic career since his transfer for Madrid, at first with the aim of pursuing his studies in engineering, until his full consolidation as an artist in which he managed to create his own pictorial language. For this we will be using, on the one hand, different biographical sources such a monographic books and catalogs of exhibitions, from a different points of view, as well as different sources that will serve to understand the political, social and artistic context of Spain in those years.
