    The migration flows that Europe has been witnessing in recent years are, in the opinion of several analysts, a trend that will last. The way in which the European Union has tried to solve this problem within and beyond its borders has called into question the principles and values that always defended. Principles such as the defense of human dignity, solidarity, freedom, democracy and equality, which have always been present in the European process, are at stake when we analyze the response of some Member States to this unprecedented refugee crisis. So, is Europe capable of solving this situation safeguarding at the same time its stability and its founding principles?

    Os fluxos migratórios a que a Europa tem assistido nos últimos anos são, no entender de vários analistas, uma tendência que irá perdurar. A forma como a União Europeia tem procurado resolver este problema, dentro e fora das suas fronteiras, coloca em causa os princípios e valores que sempre defendeu. Princípios como a defesa da dignidade humana, so-lidariedade, liberdade, democracia e igualdade, que desde sempre acompanharam o processo europeu, são violados quando analisamos a resposta de alguns Estados membros a esta crise de refugiados sem precedentes. Será a Europa capaz de resolver esta situação salvaguardando simultaneamente a sua estabilidade e seus princípios fundadores?
