Resumen de From Masculine Heroism to Everyday Violence? A Gendered Perspective on the Partisan War in Lithuania

Dovilė Budrytė

  • A memory regime that emerged in Lithuania during the early stages of democratization in the late eighties and early nineties elevated men who participated in the armed resistance against the Soviet military during and after World War II to positions of high honor. Currently, the memorialization of armed resistance remains an important public practice. This essay analyzes the perspectives of three women who participated in this war, paying attention to their interactions with the functioning memory regime of “fighting and suffering.”
