  • Lawton examines the claim that atheism is just another religion. The claim seems to have risen around a decade ago in response to the rise of New Atheism, a scientifically motivated critique of religion led by Richard Dawkins and underpinned by his 2006 book The God Delusion. Furthermore, Lawton stresses that atheism is not just simply an absence of belief of god, but also a set of alternative benefits about the origin and nature of reality.
