Participación de la comunidad del instituto tecnológico de Mérida en el cuidado del medio ambiente

    El medio ambiente es un tema que cada día despierta mayor interés entre particulares, y parece que de forma colectiva, empresas, organizaciones e instituciones públicas y privadas buscan medios para fomentar y participar en su cuidado. Las instituciones de educación superior pretenden la formación de profesionales, de manera integral, incluyendo en sus valores el respeto por el medio ambiente. La comunidad que conforma una institución está integrada por su personal administrativo y docente así como por sus alumnos.

    Esta investigación tiene como objetivo conocer cómo y en qué medida, el personal docente, el personal administrativo y los alumnos del Instituto Tecnológico de Mérida, participan el cuidado del medio ambiente. El análisis de la participación se enfoca en tres elementos: los conocimientos, los hábitos y las actitudes respecto del cuidado ambiental.

    Se trata de una investigación de corte cuantitativo, descriptiva, no experimental y transversal. Se aplicó un instrumento de 49 ítems divididos en tres apartados: conocimientos, hábitos y actitudes. La población era de 5476 alumnos, 621 entre personal docentes y administrativo. Se trabajó con una muestra aleatoria estratificada de 238 empleados docentes y administrativos y otra muestra de 359 alumnos.

    Entre los resultados generales se encontró que el nivel de conocimientos es medio, mientras que las actitudes y los hábitos se encuentran en un nivel alto. Existen marcadas diferencias entre los resultados encontrados en alumnos, docentes y personal administrativo así como diferencias entre os estudiantes de las diferentes carreras.

    The caring for the environment is a subject that every day awakens more interest in individuals and seemingly in businesses as well as public and private institutions as they all look for ways to promote it. Institutions of higher learning integrate the value of respecting the environment along with the other aspects of education of future professionals. These ideals are also passed along to the others in the academic community, administrators and teachers.

    The objective of this research is to know how and in what way the teaching staff, administrators and students of The Instituto Tecnológico of Merida participle in the caring for the environment by focusing on the analysis of each ones’ habits, knowledge, and attitude about subject.

    The research was carried out via a quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental cross sectional study applied through the use of a 49 item questionnaire divided into knowledge of, habits and attitude regarding the environment that was given to 359 students of a total population of 5476 and 238 teachers and administrators out of a total population of 621. In the general results a moderate level of knowledge was found while in the areas of knowledge and habits were scored higher. Marked differences were found between students and administrators / teachers and also between students of different fields of study.
