Resumen de El espacio de la Misión de San Rafael y su fotografía (Isla Dawson, Tierra del Fuego, 1889-1911)

En este trabajo sobre la fotografía de la Misión Salesiana de San Rafael, se presentará una lectura respecto de las formas de habitar y las maneras de representar ese habitar en las fotografías. Considerando la imagen fotográfica como una mediación entre una realidad y la reconstrucción de aquella, nuestro objetivo será reflexionar sobre la fotografía en tanto una producción específica acerca del indígena y sus modos de habitar. Las imágenes se tomaron en el espacio de la misión, y nuestras preguntas son qué aparece, qué se omite y qué es lo que se refuerza en dichas representaciones del indígena.

In this paper about the photography of the Salesian Mission of San Rafael we will present a reading about the forms of dwelling and the ways of representing such dwelling. Considering the photographic image as a mediation between a reality and its reconstruction, our aim will be to reflect about photography as a specific production about the natives and their ways of dwelling. The images were taken in the space of the mission, and our questions are what is photographed, what is omitted, and what is reinforces in these representations of the indigenous peoples.
