  • Resumen
    • This article presents information on doctoral degrees granted in foreign languages in the U.S. in 2004 published by The Modern Language Journal. The compilers contact each doctoral degree-granting department in languages, literatures and education and request individual chairpersons to identify in writing the author, title, and director of each dissertation completed during the last calendar year. The chairperson is also asked to indicate the type of doctoral degree granted. The order of entries is a major field or area of specialization, institution granting the degree, author of dissertation, title of dissertation and directors/supervisors of dissertation. Only those comparative literature and cinema doctorates dealing at least in part with languages other than English are included. Because the first classification preference is given to the language, users of this compilation who wish to learn the full breadth of titles reported should check several categories of entry.
