The article offers a response to and discussion of the article "Studying Religion and Language Teaching and Learning: Building a Subfield" by Huamei Han in the current issue. It emphasizes the need for applied-linguistics researchers studying the role of religion in language education to be aware of their own beliefs and positions and to attend to the range of motivations that may underlie such research, including religious evangelism.
