Resumen de Teacher Education in the Age of Standards of Professional Practice.

Richard Donato

  • The article discusses the training of language teachers and the professional standards like certification that they must meet in order to teach in the U.S. The author examines the standards themselves in order to figure out which standards have helped student teachers and which ones have not been helpful. One positive benefit of the standards is that education, language, and literature departments have been forced to collaborate and this has been good for student teachers. One of the drawbacks of standards, the author feels, is that they cannot accurately reflect the thought processes that teachers use.
