The article presents the author's opinions on the Languages Across the Curriculum (LAC) initiative in U.S. higher education stemming from the interest in internationalizing the curriculum. The Modern Language Association's request for the development of LACs because of a language crisis resulting from the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 is explored. The primary objectives of LAC programs as well as several challenges regarding implementation of these programs are considered.
