  Objetivo: Describir el tamaño de la Zona Avascular Foveal (ZAF) en ojos sanos mediante Angio OCT.

  Material Y Métodos: Se realiza una revisión de la bibliografía disponible sobre el tema.

  Resultados: El protocolo más utilizado para estudiar la ZAF es el de 3 x 3 mm², siendo el equipo que más se ha empleado en los estudios revisados el Avanti (Optovue, Fremont, CA, EEUU), encontrando valores que van desde los 0,21 ± 0,1 mm² hasta 0,289 ± 0,108 mm² en tomas manuales y mediciones realizadas en el plexo superficial.

  Conclusión: Para medir la ZAF se recomienda utilizar un campo de 3 x 3 mm², medir de forma manual en el plexo superficial. Siempre que se busque comparar áreas de la ZAF se tendrán presentes las diferencias de segmentación y software que existen entre los equipos, de esta manera la OCT-Angiografía puede ser de utilidad para la medición de la ZAF.

  Objective: To describe the Avascular Foveal Zone (AFZ) in healthy eyes using OCT angiography.

  Material and Methods: A review of the available bibliography on this topic is carried out.

  Results: The most applied protocol to study the AFZ is the 3 x 3 mm², and, the Avanti (Optovue, Fremont, CA, EEUU) is the most used equipment in studies reviewed. It has found values from 0,21 ± 0,1 mm² to 0,289 ± 0,108 mm² in manually operated measurements, focused on the superficial vascular plexus.

  Conclusion: We suggest sizing the AFZ by employing the 3 x 3 mm² protocol and taking the measurements from the superficial vascular plexus manually. Whenever trying to compare AFZ dimensions ,it is required to be aware of the segmentation and software differences among the equipments. Therefore, OCT angiography can be useful to measure the AFZ.
