    El artículo presenta un esbozo histórico de la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad de Valencia. Se argumentan las razones que explican la creación de estas facultades en el marco de la reforma educativa literal y la construcción del Estado-nación, así como las estrategias políticas de los moderados, progresistas y demócratas. Se analiza su institucionalización y etapas, los profesores, los estudiantes, los saberes y la enseñanza. Se destaca la importancia de tres momentos históricos: el Regeneracionismo (1902-1939) que renovó la escuela; el impacto negativo de la dictadura de Franco; y los efectos de los cambios sociales de los años sesenta y setenta en la universidad

It tríes to explain the reasons and circumstances involved in the creation of this type of Schools in the context of the liberal reform project and the building of the Spanish nation-State.
