Resumen de Mentalización y conflicto. La determinación de psicoterapia mediante el uso de un instrumento para evaluar la mentalización: el MEMCI

  El trabajo propone diferenciar entre patologías en las que predomina el conflicto psíquico y aquellas otras en las que lo decisivo en el malestar del paciente son las fallas en su capacidad para mentalizar. Consigna que en la mayoría de los casos encontramos una combinatoria de ambas modalidades. Se trata, para el clínico, de poder diferenciar qué es lo vigente o lo predominante (entre estas alternativas) en el padecer del paciente que lo consulta, ya que, según sea esta evaluación, el abordaje terapéutico será marcadamente diferente. En este punto, los autores proponen que el Método para la Evaluación de la Mentalización en el Contexto Interpersonal (MEMCI) permite realizar esta diferenciación y establecer focos de trabajo, tanto si lo indicado es una terapia orientada a la mentalización (fallas en la capacidad de mentalizar), como si lo indicado es una terapia orientada al insight (predominio del conflicto psíquico).

  This article proposes a differentiation between psychopathologies which are based on psychic conflict and those where the main responsible for the patient’s suffering are failures in mentalizing abilities.

  The authors state that in most clinical presentations, it is possible to find a combination of both causes.

  It is the responsibility of the clinician to be able to distinguish which is the most current and predominant between these alternatives in the patient’s suffering, because depending on this distinction, the therapeutic approach is markedly different.

  With this in mind, the authors posit that the Method for the Evaluation of Mentalizing in Interpersonal Contexts (MEMCI, its Spanish acronym) allows to make this distinction and to stablish a therapeutic focus either based on mentalization (responding to failures in mentalizing capacity), or insight-oriented therapy (when the psychic conflict predominates)
