Resumen de Georges Bataille et la question de l’impersonnel: une expérience néoplatonicienne ?

The purpose of this paper is to study the notion of "impersonal" in the thought of Georges Bataille. This notion appears particularly in two books: the first one is about the painter Manet (published in 1955), the second one is about eroticism (1957). What Bataille called impersonal is not only the pictorial experience but also the erotic experience. Doesn't such an experience go hand-in-hand with the neo-Platonic experience which consists of going back to the first principle with which the soul searches to unite itself? In fact, this can be shown through the notion of the impersonal. Such a notion can have a different meaning in two different cases. But according to Bataille, the experience reveals itself as particularly original.

Cet article prend pour fil directeur une notion peu étudiée mais pourtant fondamentale pour comprendre la pensée de G. Bataille. Il s’agit de la notion d’impersonnel. Celle-ci est présente principalement dans deux textes, l’étude consacrée en 1955 au peintre Manet et l’ouvrage de 1957 consacré à l’érotisme. Bataille y indique que l’expérience picturale ainsi que l’expérience érotique sont impersonnelles. Une telle expérience s’apparente-t-elle à l’expérience néoplatonicienne qui consiste à remonter jusqu’à un principe premier avec lequel l’âme cherche à s’unir ? Celle-ci, en effet, peut aussi être comprise à partir de la notion d’impersonnel. On montrera cependant qu’une telle notion aussi bien que l’expérience qui est pensée à partir d’elle, reçoivent un sens différent dans les deux cas. L’expérience, telle que la conçoit Bataille, se révèle ainsi particulièrement originale.
