    El uso del lenguaje y su relación con la realidad son dos de las principales preocupaciones en la obra del poeta Zbigniew Herbert. Se trata de grandes preguntas que a su vez desencadenan otras no menos importantes, como el papel del intelectual y el concepto de arte. Según Herbert, no hay teoría sin praxis ni poesía sin labor creativa. La belleza es una necesidad humana, lo que a su vez implica que existe gracias al sujeto que la contempla. En “Sobre las palabras nos dormimos” el poeta indaga en el misterio de la escritura, capaz de contener y restaurar un mundo que, sin embargo, no puede controlar.

    The use of language and its relation to reality are two of the main concerns in the work of the poet Zbigniew Herbert. These are great issues which trigger other equally important discussions, such as the role of intellectuals and the concept of art. According to Herbert, there is no theory without praxis and no poetry without creative labor. Beauty is a human need, and therefore it exists thanks to the subject who understands it. In “We fall asleep on Words”, the poet delves into the mystery of writing, which is able to contain and restore a world that, however, he cannot control.
