    En este trabajo analizamos la presencia del mito de la esfinge en el grupo de poetas conocido como Generación del 27, destacando su significado como un ser misterioso asociado a la muerte, al tiempo y al silencio. No obstante, la esfinge aparecerá también en los poemas de forma muy diversa e identificada con diferentes objetos, desde un reloj o una caja fuerte hasta unas cigüeñas. Cabe destacar así mismo la inversión de los papeles tradicionales: en lugar de ser la esfinge la que pregunta al hombre, los poetas del 27 interrogan y cuestionan a esta criatura en un intento de resolver el enigma que les plantea, el de la propia existencia del ser humano y la pervivencia más allá de la muerte.

    The aim of this work is to analyse the view and symbolism of Sphinx’s myth in the poetry of the group called “Generation of ’27.” It highlights the meaning of this creature as a mysterious being related to death, time and silence. Nevertheless, this creature will appear also in different forms, such as clocks, a strongbox or even it will be identified with storks. However, unlike it happens in the Gr eek myth, the Sphinx will be asked by those poets who are trying to solve their own riddle, which is, in fact, the ancestral question about the meaning of life and if it does exist an afterlife.
