El fundamentalismo literario de Mario Vargas Llosa

    A partir de los análisis que el profesor Gustavo Bueno ha hecho del concepto de “fundamentalismo democrático,” desarrollamos el concepto de “fundamentalismo literario” y lo ilustramos con la teoría de la literatura que Mario Vargas Llosa ha objetivado en su libro La verdad de las mentiras . Nosotros demostramos en estas páginas que su teoría incurre constantemente en este tipo de monismo ideológico. Así como el “fundamentalismo democrático” eleva la democracia a la condición misma de fundamento de la sociedad política, el “fundamentalismo literario” eleva la literatura a fundamento de la condición humana. Por ejemplo, Vargas Llosa afirma que, sin literatura, no habría seres humanos, sino simples “bípedos” que vivirían en un mundo animal, pero, gracias a la literatura, los “bípedos” trascienden su primitivismo y alcanzan la condición humana. Vargas Llosa también afirma que “se aprende a hablar con corrección, profundidad, rigor y sutileza, gracias a la buena literatura, y sólo gracias a ella” y este “sólo” convierte la frase en otro signo de fundamentalismo. En última instancia, demostramos que el “fundamentalismo literario” es una de las realizaciones más representativas de la simplicidad, el idealismo y la ingenuidad posmodernas

    By means of the analysis that Professor Gustavo Bueno carried out on the concept of “democratic fundamentalism,” we have developed the concept of “literary fundamentalism” and have illustrated it through Mario Vargas Llosa’s literary theory objectified in his book: La verdad de las mentiras. We demonstrate in these pages that his theory incurs constantly in this kind of ideological monism. As “democratic fundamentalism” raises democracy to the status of the political society basis, “literary fundamentalism” raises literature to the foundation status of human condition. For instance, Vargas Llosa states that, without literature, there would not be human beings but simple “bipeds” living in an animal world; but thanks to literature, “bipeds” transcend their primitivism and achieve the human condition. Vargas Llosa also states that “we learn how to speak correctly, deeply, rigorously and subtlety thanks to good literature, and only because of the literature” and this “only” turns the sentence into another sign of fundamentalism. Ultimately, we demonstrate that “literary fundamentalism” is one of the most representative embodiments of postmodern simplicity, idealism and naivete.
