The article discusses the use of the "Second Life" virtual environment to simulate a building on the campus of Birmingham City University. Students taking film and television-production courses created a likeness of the University's Millennium Point building to determine how well such a virtual environment could aid in the planning of an actual film shoot. Students found the virtual building did not provide a sufficient degree of realism in several areas including building materials, weather patterns, and ambient noise.
