La actividad del triaje en un servicio de urgencia hospitalario, tras la implantación del “triaje manchester"

    OBJETIVO: Evaluar la calidad en la actividad del triaje en el Servicio de Urgencias del Hospital de Cabueñes de Gijón (ASTURIAS), mediante indicadores de estructura y de proceso, tras un año de la implantación del “Triaje Manchester”.

    POBLACIÓN Y MÉTODOS: La población estudiada fueron los médicos y enfermeras/os que trabajaban en el Servicio de Urgencias Hospitalario estudiado, en el área de adultos y pediatría, en el mes de abril de 2014 y una muestra aleatoria y representativa de los pacientes que acudieron a este Servicio de Urgencias con disnea o dolor torácico, entre el 1 de octubre de 2013 y el 31 de marzo de 2014. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, transversal y retrospectivo y se utilizaron como instrumentos en el caso de los profesionales sanitarios un cuestionario y para los pacientes una hoja de recogida de datos que permitió, durante los meses de octubre a diciembre de 2014 revisar, el dossier/informe de triaje u hoja de atención de enfermería en urgencias y el informe médico de urgencias.

    RESULTADOS/CONCLUSIONES: Aunque la calidad en la actividad del triaje evaluada resulta ser bastante aceptable, pero quizás un enfoque multidisciplinario y una formación específica, junto con la mejora de los tiempos de primera atención y tiempo de triaje a primera atención médica, ayudarían a mejorar la satisfacción de los profesionales sanitarios, así como la calidad asistencial ofrecida en la unidad.

    AIM: To assess the quality of triaje in Cabueñes Hospital Emergency Services, Gijón (ASTURIAS), using structure and process indicators, a year after implantation of “Manchester Triaje”.

    POPULATION AND METHODS: The doctors and nurses who were working in the adult and pediatric area of the Hospital Emergency Service here under study, in the month of April 2014 and a random and representative sample of the patients who visited this Emergency Service with dyspnoea or thoracic pain, between 1st October 2013 and 31st of March 2014, were the population used for this study. A descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study was carried out and a questionnaire, in the case of the health professionals, and a data collection sheet, for the patients, were used as instruments which allowed us, over the months of October to December of 2014, to review the triaje report or the emergency care sheet and the emergency medical report.

    OUTCOMES/CONCLUSIONS: Although quality in triaje assessed proved quite aceptable, maybe a multidisciplinary focus and specific training, along with time improvements in first aid and triaje through to first medical care, would help to improve the health professionals’ satisfaction, as well as the quality of assistance offered by the unit.
