  Los orígenes de la institución notarial en El Puerto de Santa María revistieron unas particularidades sumamente interesantes, dados los cambios de titularidad –de realengo a señorío y de señor a otro señor– que sufrió la villa a fines del siglo XIII y principios del XIV. El hallazgo de un documento notarial portuense de 1293 en el Archivo del Monasterio de San Clemente de Sevilla ha permitido, junto con otras noticias, la elaboración de un breve estudio sobre las escribanías públicas de El Puerto durante este período, con atención a su implantación, nominación, número, organigrama y actividad de los notarios de la villa.

  The origins of the notarial institution in El Puerto de Santa María had some very interesting features, given the changes of ownership -from royal jurisdiction to lordship and from one lord to another- that the town underwent at the end of the XIII century and the beginning of the XIV. The discovery of a notarial document from 1293 in the Archive of the Monastery of San Clemente in Seville has allowed me, along with other items of information, to prepare a brief study on the public notaries of El Puerto during this period, with due attention to their implementation, designation, number, organization chart and activity of the notaries of the town.
