    Conor O’Malley, un adolescente de 12 años, vive en un pequeño pueblo inglés junto a su madre Lizzie, quien sufre una grave enfermedad. La rutina de Conor se resume en su afición por el dibujo, el apoyo que proporciona a su madre y la asistencia diaria al colegio, donde reiteradamente es acosado por varios de sus compañeros. Sin embargo, esta monotonía se ve alterada al recibir la visita de un monstruo que dice venir para contarle tres historias y para posteriormente escuchar un último relato que el joven debe contarle. En un primer momento esta experiencia desconcierta a Conor, pero despertará su interés posterior a medida que el tiempo va pasando y tiene que hacer frente al transcurso de la afección de su madre, con un padre casi ausente y una abuela con la que mantiene una relación distante. De este modo, dos acontecimientos que a los ojos de Conor parecen independientes, la dolencia de su madre y las visitas del monstruo, acabarán aportando un sentido a su vida.

    Conor O'Malley, a 12-year-old teenager, lives in a small English town with his mother Lizzie, who suffers from a serious illness. Conor's routine is summarized by his hobby of drawing, the support he provides to his mother and the daily attendance at school, where he is repeatedly harassed by several of his classmates. However, this monotony is altered by the visit of a monster who says come to tell three stories and then listen to a last story that the young man should tell. At first this experience disconcerts Conor, but will arouse his later interest, as time goes by and he has to face the course of his mother's condition, with an almost absent father and a grandmother with whom he maintains a distant relationship. In this way, two events that seem independent to Conor, his mother's pain and the monster's visits, will end up contributing a meaning to his life.
