In this review I examine the book of Fernando Lizarraga Marxists and Liberals. My goals in the present note are three. First at all, I want to provide a descriptive reconstruction of the main aspects of the structure and content of the book. Secondly, I desire to briefly discuss three issues interwinned. These issues are, first, the nature of the dialogue between Marxists and liberals from the perspective of the French philosopher Louis Althusser. Second, the relationship between the normative basis of the principles of justice and the empirical question of its application to the real world.
Third, the criticism raised by Marxism to classical utilitarianism by Bentham. Third and last, I describe the set of beliefs and emotions that reading the Lizárraga’s book have given me.
