In an era of constant connection, nothing is more potent than the off switch. Last week, about 50 employees of US technology company Three Square Market had that power taken away, at least in some senses. They volunteered to have radio frequency identification chips implanted in their hands. These can be used to log in to computers, activate snack machines and perform other office activities.
