  Las fibras artificiales se vienen desarrollando desde finales del siglo XIX en los laboratorios para dar nuevas soluciones y mejorar las propiedades de las fibras naturales, las únicas utilizadas hasta el momento. Comienza así un proceso de investigación constante que hará que estas fibras se distribuyan con diferentes finalidades: desde materiales con fines bélicos, pasando por la mejora de elementos y útiles cotidianos, hasta que ya en el siglo XX, comiencen a incorporarse por su vistosidad y aspecto estético, al diseño de Alta Costura y Prêt-à-Porter. El Museo del Traje, Centro de Investigación del Patrimonio Etnológico en Madrid, expone y conserva en sus colecciones excepcionales ejemplos de cómo arte, diseño y materiales poliméricos, han dado como resultado piezas singulares, algunas de las cuales, son analizadas desde el punto de vista químico y artístico, en este artículo

  Synthetic fibers have been developed since the late 19th century in laboratories to provide new solutions and improve the properties of natural fibers, the only ones used so far. Thus begins a constant research process will make that these fibers can be used with different purposes: from materials for war ends, through the improvement of commodities and supplies, until already in the 20th century, begin to be incorporated for its brightness and look, to the design of High Fashion and Prêt-à-Porter. The Costume´s Museum, Investigation Center of the Ethnological Patrimony in Madrid, exposes and conserves in its exceptional collections examples of how art, design and polymeric materials, have resulted in singular pieces, some of which, are, in this article, analyzed from a chemical and artistic point of view
