Google is planning to offer people in the US searching for "depression" a clinically validated questionnaire so they can find out if they may have the condition. Google has partnered with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to provide a link to a questionnaire at the top of the search results for terms related to depression. NAMI says that the results of the self-assessment can form the first step towards a diagnosis, and help people have a more informed conversation with their doctor. NAMI is keen to point out that it isn't intended to be used as the sole tool for diagnosis of clinical depression, but to guide users towards reliable healthcare information. While PHQ-9 is well-regarded as a diagnostic tool, it needs to be applied repeatedly and regularly to give a meaningful picture.
