  • The UK Department of Transport announced mandatory registration and safety training for all drone owners. The problem with that is that drones can be built using raw components and run open-source software, all beyond legal oversight. A similar scheme in the US hasn't reduced near misses. Expensive drone-versus-engine tests seem unlikely any time soon, but wouldn't just give us a much better picture of the risks. With the risks of an accident mounting, such tests need to be done soon.
