    • The construction process of large scintillation cameraswith continuous crystals is a complex problem affectedby multiple variables, from the physical constructionof the scintillation crystal to the dispersion in the sensi-bility of photomultiplier tubes. The selection of thesevariables have a strong impact on the final performanceof the scintillation camera. A new method to selectphotomultiplier is presented in this paper, regardingits gain, making use of k-means clustering and geneticalgorithms. The proposed algorithm was tested andapplied in the construction of six scintillation camerasfor the Argentinean positron emission tomogaph pro-totype (AR-PET), a problem with more than 10+600possible configurations. The resulting configurationof the scintillation cameras reduced the software-free-calibrationFWHMof the camera from 20% to 15%average
