Resumen de Footprints hint that humans are from Europe

Colin Barras

  • Gerard Gierlinski of the Polish Research Institute in Warsaw found the ancient footprints on Trachilos, near Crete. The tracks seem to be from an animal that walked upright on two legs. Their shape suggests hominin feet: for instance, the animal walked on the soles of its feet, rather than its toes. But fossil and geological evidence implies the footprints are 5.7 million years old. That is 4 million years before hominins are typically believed to have left Africa.
